Reports to: Senior Staff Surveyor, Project Surveyor; Principal
Coordinates with: Surveying & engineering colleagues and support staff at all levels; consultants, contractors, and landowners
Position Summary: The Staff Surveyor is responsible for the data collection and processing of measurements used in various Boundary, Topographic & Utility Surveys, Certified Survey Maps and Plats under the supervision of the Senior Staff Surveyor and/or Project Surveyor. This role performs construction layout computations and measurements for various construction projects, such as building, utility, development, and roadway staking. The Staff Surveyor also provides mentorship and direction to occupants of the Survey Technician role.
Classification: Full-time, exempt
Duties:
Maintain, prepare, calibrate, and proficiently use field survey equipment such as GPS/GNSS, robotic total stations, auto level, other survey instruments and Civil 3D CAD platform
Make and record field observations and notes; read and interpret construction drawings
Perform a variety of field/office survey, mapping, layout computations & tasks
Assist Senior Staff Surveyor and Project Surveyor in support of their duties including field work schedules
Assist Senior Staff Surveyor & Project Surveyor in preparation of land survey documents
Adhere to required safety practices in the office and in the field; physical requirements include walking over uneven terrain and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Quality control reviews and compliance
Daily uploads to project files as appropriate: field data, photos, field notes, etc.
Daily timesheet and equipment usage log updates, business development, and other tasks and assistance as assigned
Qualifications:
High school diploma; associate degree in Land Surveying including four 4 years of experience in field surveying or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the role
Experience with CAD software and surveying related analysis software; proficient daily use and maintenance of field survey equipment
Productive time management including organizing tasks, prioritizing, planning, and scheduling
Problem-solving skills to resolve challenges encountered
Strong communication skills for successful verbal and written interactions
Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a small team setting and on individual projects
A valid driver’s license, personal vehicle use, and willingness to travel
